What is FAT?
This is a charged topic – lots of emotional energy surround the word “fat”. The reality is that fat is not bad; meaning that it has a function in the body. The media/big pharma has turned fat into “public enemy #1” and launched a battle against it. The battle against the bulge is a cash cow. In 2012 the annual revenue of the U.S. weight-loss industry, including diet books, diet drugs and weight-loss surgeries was $20 billion. (If you were to stack a billion one dollar bills on top of each other it would reach over 63 miles high!)
Let’s take a look at FAT for a moment.
The function of “fat” is to serve as a source of potential energy. It is stored energy or reserve energy.
Potential means capable of being or becoming; possible but not actual. Fat serves as potential energy or a backup energy source in the body.
The good news is that you’re not really fat; you just have too much potential energy. Sounds better that way, doesn’t it? We should get a T-shirt that says, “I’m not fat, I’m full of potential!” or “I have more potential than you!”
More Energy = More Tired
Having extra “potential energy” does not equate to instant energy. (Wouldn’t that be nice!) Only under specific circumstances can we tap into the reserve energy source called fat. Because it is often inaccessible, you might crave energy in the form of breads, pasta, cereal, chips or chocolate. Those simple carbohydrates that can provide instant, though temporary, energy for us. Even though you might be full of “potential energy” you, most likely, won’t feel energized at all. In fact, most feel tired, drained and downright exhausted to the point that they can’t miss that cup of coffee in the morning or that Red Bull in the afternoon to keep going.
The Bad and the Good
The bad news is that the stored energy is unavailable to you. You need specific keys to release the fat and turn it into energy. The good news is that you already have the keys; they are your own hormones. To do this though you have to understand these keys and use the right ones. There are roughly 600 hormones in the body. Six hormones are fat-burning and three are fat-storing. Your body won’t simultaneously burn fat and store fat. If given a choice, your body will store fat. If any of the three fat-storing hormones are active, it will nullify all six fat burning hormones. The secret to healthy weight loss is to activate the six fat-burning hormones and keep the three fat-storing hormones inactive.
