Myth: Lose 30 Pounds in 30 Days
Myth: Lose 30 Pounds in 30 Days
Did you know that losing more than 2 pounds a week puts you at risk?
Studies show that people who lose more than 2 pounds in a week through dieting are more prone to health hazards compared to others who follow a sustainable weight loss program (and who wouldn’t be happy with losing 2 pounds per week anyway? What’s the hurry right?).
I believe that you’re better off getting rid of 2 pounds per week for 8 weeks and sustaining it, than starving yourself on a crash diet for three weeks and piling it all back on a few weeks later.
In my experience, as you target the goal of improving your health (over the target of simply losing weight) you will lose water weight first. Some patients have lost up to 10 pounds of water weight in the period of 1-2 weeks. This was not a persisting pattern as the following weeks the weight loss dropped to 1-2 pounds per week with most of that still water weight.
As the body heals it has the potential to burn 1-2 pounds of fat per week. This is good! It takes time to reach this point. Many bodies won’t/can’t burn two pounds of fat until they have reached a higher level of health and vitality. Give your body a chance to heal and if you are consistently losing a half pound a week and are experiencing positive health indicators like: improve energy, better quality of sleep, better digestion, close-fitting more loosely, more muscle strength, better nail and hair quality, decreased cravings, and overall feelings of well-being, you are on the right track!
Bottom Line: Research only supports a healthy fat loss of 1-2 pounds per week. Any other programs that advertise more than that are talking about water weight or are not
